North Rockhampton State High School is one of the largest state secondary schools in Rockhampton. The vision of our school is to achieve the highest possible learning outcomes for each student. However, the NRSHS experience goes far beyond the classroom. We nurture the growth of our students and provide opportunities to participate and excel in activities they are passionate about.

One of the hallmarks of our school is our strong extra-curricular offerings, in particular our Rugby League program. Over our 65-year history, NRSHS has excelled in Rugby League, with many of our teams achieving success in local competitions and several alumni moving on to NRL, QLD Maroons and Australian Kangaroos representation. Our program has continued to experience great success at district, regional and state levels through inter-school competitions and the coveted Karyn Murphy Cup, NRL Schoolboys Trophy and top tier NRL Schoolgirls Cup. This success can be attributed to the determination and enthusiasm of our students and the committed and professional coaching staff who support them. Our ambition is to develop a School of Excellence in Rugby League where all students, boys and girls, can achieve their potential.

2022 has already been a huge year for our program with success in state wide competitions, local competitions and has seen the progression of our junior boy's sides back into the A Division.

Our Open Girls Rugby League side found great success winning the RDSSRL Championship. They also participated in the inaugural year of the NRL Schoolgirls Cup which is now the top tier state wide girls Rugby League competition. Unfortunately, the girls were narrowly defeated by 2 points in the Capricornia finals.

The Open Boys Rugby League side have again been crowned the Capricornia Champions of the NRL Schoolboys Trophy and will be heading to Townsville to play in the Quad Series. They will now battle it out with Mirani SHS (North West Champions), Trinity Bay SHS (Peninsula Champions) and Columba College (Northern Champions) in the Quad Series Semi Finals. If they are successful in these matches they will head to Brisbane for Queensland Finals.

The Junior Girl's sides were both able to progress into the semi finals in the Karyn Murphy Cup and the RDSSRL competition. There was only 1 point that separate our girl's teams and the winners of the Dolphins Cup (The overall best school side for girls).

Our Junior Boys sides are midway through their season but are showing great promise. The school is very excited to have the Year 9 side competing in the A Division with the hope that our other junior side will join them in 2023. Our Year 7 side has generated a lot of excitement winning 4 from 4 so far, 3 of which resulting in the mercy rule being applied.
